2020 has brought new privacy laws into effect in the US, including SHIELD and CCPA. Multiple bills are still pending in 20 states and at the federal level that may also be passed this year.
Is your nonprofit prepared to meet these legal requirements?
For nonprofits, donor data is consumer data: privacy laws apply. In addition to two new laws this year, CCPA and SHIELD, multiple bills are still pending in 20 states and at the federal level (COPRA). There are also new third-party requirements. Google requires all websites to have a comprehensive and up-to-date privacy policy in order to access services and tools like Google Analytics and AdSense.

We offer a privacy and cookie policy generator that is maintained by an international legal team, and that automatically updates as the law changes. The solution auto-generates policies and stores consent settings for users for up to 12 months after their last website visit. An option to consent via scrolling offers convenience for users and maximizes consent collection.
The attorney-level solution does not copy and paste legal texts, but rather uses embedding to ensure policies remain compliant with the latest legal amendments and third-party requirements. If you make changes such as launching a newsletter, moving physical addresses, adding new technology, or expanding to another of the 8 languages included, you can update your legally required information with just one click.
Currently the most robust data laws are the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Since online activity is rarely bound by geography, best practice is to adhere to the strictest applicable regulations. The solution we use adopts and regularly monitors major global privacy laws to ensure that all necessary requirements are continuously met. It is used by more than 60,000 clients in over 100 countries.
